PerchPal was created in 2023 by Kathy Young to help retrieve her bird, Buzz, from high places. The very first prototype was ingeniously crafted using a telescopic pole salvaged from a fan duster and a cotton perch, securely attached with duct tape.
After researching bird product websites, Young discovered Wyld’s Wingdom and its list of manufacturers. One such manufacturer, Allied Industries, led her to Stuart Anders, the owner and inventor of the original Slap Wraps. The duo collaborated, making numerous adjustments until PerchPal perfectly embodied their aesthetic and mechanical vision.
PerchPal made its debut in March 2023 at Global Pet Expo through Wyld’s Wingdom. The product, designed for retrieval, training and safe handling of birds, was well received and in August 2023 was showcased at SuperZoo 2023, where it earned first place in the bird product category as well as the Judges Award for Best-New-to-Market Pet Product 2023.
