NZ Brand ZIWI Shares Its Sustainability Mission in the Pet Industry

As we forge into the future, a focus on sustainability has become much more forefront in the consumer’s mind. People are conscious of the environmental impacts they are leaving and consumers and business alike are placing an emphasis on buying from or partnering with eco-conscious brands. At the rate industrialization and manufacturing are going, we know that it is not sustainable for the environments we live within and the planet we live on.

ZIWI, a New Zealand-based pet food manufacturer, is very cognitive of this, and the brand is doing its part in making sure it forges forward in a way that can positively impact sustainable business operations and even habitat rehabilitation.

With ZIWI’s mission to “providing peace of mind to pet guardians around the world,” the brand has already taken many steps to doing just that, with utilizing ethically and sustainably sourced ingredients in its recipes, partnering with farmers and suppliers committed to free-range farming practices and implementing sustainable practices in its new super-kitchen Awatoto in Napier, New Zealand. The brand is excited about the next step toward furthering its mission while becoming the best environmental stewards it can be, by joining the Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC) as a Guardian level member.

With this membership to the PSC, ZIWI is guided by the coalition, with being informed, inspired and accelerated in its sustainability journey. This provides the brand with a wealth of resources to implement into its practices alongside performance assessments and recommendations so they may chart our sustainability roadmap and visualize the progress we are making.

The PSC embraces the vision of a thriving and collaborative pet industry that creates positive impact for the communities and environments where we do business with a mission of advancing business through profitable environmental and social practices. They hold their members and own team accountable to certain sustainable standards and promote continual improvements to be made as our industry evolves.

ZIWI takes its environmental impact very seriously and is the heart and soul of our new super-kitchen, Awatoto. This new kitchen features recycled and reclaimed wood furnishing, water collection systems to water and regrow nearby vegetation, and replanted native foliage to encourage repopulation of endangered birdlife, bees and insects. In addition, ZIWI has also added solar panels and innovative technology that cleans and purifies the air from the brand’s air dryers, ensuring the air is free from odors and contaminants. This is just the start to a more sustainable step forward in efforts to minimize its environmental impact, and ZIWI is excited to partner with the PSC to help the brand along the way.
