This is no different when it comes to birds. Treats provide feathered companions with additional proteins, vitamins and other minerals necessary for their overall health, but in a way that is entertaining and enjoyable for both bird and owner, without tarnishing their regular diet.
Because birds are very intelligent animals, they can be trained to perform a variety of tricks. And while many birds enjoy the training session and consider the interaction itself a reward, some birds require more incentive. For example, if their parakeet is a picky eater or has a favorite flavor or has a specific dietary need, grabbing any treat product for parakeets may not be beneficial. And even if that bird has a primary preference for a specific kind of treat, it’s important to provide them with a variety of options for a well-rounded diet. It is vitally important that retailers reinforce this to their bird-owning customers. In addition, a pet store’s sales staff should educate customers on the proper way of introducing new treats to birds, which is gradually, and encourage bird owners to keep a fairly consistent treat schedule.
