According to the 2017-2018 American Pet Products Association (APPA) National Pet Owners Survey, 74 percent of cat owners feed their cats dry food more often than any other type of cat food. And APPA also states that the percentage of cats that are overweight or obese, 15 percent, has not changed since 2010.

The dry cat food category has seen several new trends hit the market in recent years as manufacturers respond to customers’ desires for varieties containing higher protein, dedicated to a natural diet or targeting specific life stages.
