Clicking on this article already tells me something. Your social media could use some help, and you know it. You’re not alone, though. Most pet brands are out here posting with zero strategy. The ThrivePOP team calls it “spray and pray,” and it’s exactly as effective as it sounds.
No content pillars. No plan for what goes up on Tuesday versus what’s saved for the product launch. Just “we should post something” energy that leads to scattered content and platform anxiety. Sound familiar?
Take two big breaths, because guess what? This is not a creativity problem. You’re out of structure, not ideas. Building that structure requires three things: clarity on who you’re talking to, consistency in how you show up, and a real understanding of what’s working right now.
Start With the Foundation
Before you schedule a single post, I want you to sit with three questions. Actually answer them. I know, I know. But this is the stuff that works.
Who are you talking to? Not “pet owners.” That’s 70 million households. Get specific. First-time dog parents overwhelmed by the options? Cat people who read ingredient labels for fun? The clearer your picture, the harder your content stops the scroll. Vague audience in, vague content out.
Where do they actually hang out? Not every platform deserves your time. Instagram and TikTok are built for short-form visual storytelling. Facebook is for community building. LinkedIn matters on the trade side. Pick two or three and own them. You can always expand later.
What do you want each post to do? Tell your boss I said it: not every post should sell something. Content falls into three buckets: educate, entertain, or build trust. Map your posts across those first, and promotion becomes part of the mix, not the whole show.
What’s Actually Working Right Now
Short-form video is still king. Reels and TikToks that feel real, not produced, are driving the most organic reach. Behind-the-scenes, quick tips, “meet the team (and their actual pets)” consistently outperform polished ad content. Get comfortable on camera. That authenticity is exactly what your audience is looking for.
Education beats promotion every time. Your audience is hungry for information, and not just the dogs looking for a bone. Ingredient spotlights, transition guides, myth vs. fact posts build authority faster than any product push. Teach first, sell second.
Consistency beats frequency. A brand that shows up three times a week, every single week, will outgrow the one that sprints and stalls every time.
“The brands winning on social right now are not posting the most. They’re posting with intention. There’s a difference.”
The Plan You’ve Been Putting Off
Seventy percent of your content should deliver value. Thirty percent can push your brand. That ratio builds the trust that makes promotional posts land when you need them to.
Then do the monthly audit. What performed, what flopped, what does next month need? Let the data lead, not just your gut. Your gut is great. Your gut also thought that one TikTok trend was a good idea. Trust the numbers.
That’s the whole strategy. You just needed someone to lay it out.
