Earlier this month, at its annual pre-SUPERZOO reception, IndiePet announced the winners of its first IndiePet Innovation Awards, recognizing three companies for advancements in pet nutrition and their support of independent pet retailers.

Fromm Family Foods, represented by Bryan Neiman and Dr. Danielle Opetz, earned the Dog Food category award for Fromm Family Nutritionals Complete Dry Dog Food. Released in March 2026, the line includes three functional diets designed to support common canine wellness needs. The Sensitive Skin and Stomach recipe uses hydrolyzed proteins, omega fatty acids and a specialized fiber blend, and is formulated without chicken. The Digestive Support Low Fat recipe contains a maximum of 9 percent fat and includes hydrolyzed proteins, targeted fibers and postbiotics for gastrointestinal health. The Mobility recipe features bone broth, glucosamine, chondroitin, New Zealand green mussels, egg shell meal and chicken cartilage to support joint health. Fromm said the line provides targeted nutrition in a complete daily diet and gives independent retailers a clear option for customers seeking solutions for issues such as pancreatitis, joint stiffness or food sensitivities.

Wild Meadow Farms, represented by Dwight Anderson, won in the Dog and Cat Treats category for Egg Puffs, a single-ingredient treat made in the United States. The company uses a patent-pending process to transform whole eggs into a light, crunchy puff without additives, fillers or preservatives. Egg Puffs are available for both dogs and cats in single-ingredient and flavored varieties. Wild Meadow Farms sells exclusively to independent retailers and said the product’s texture, clean label and sampling ease give stores a point of differentiation from mass-market competitors.

Yumwoof Natural Pet Food, represented by co-founders Jaron Lukas and Ana Padilla, received the award for the Minimally Processed Dog Food category for their yumwoof! Perfect Superfood. The air-dried dog food is made from whole-food clusters of meat, organ meats, wild-caught fish, fruits and vegetables. The recipes contain no seed oils, synthetics, artificial preservatives or GMOs, and rely instead on the company’s proprietary Cocomega superfats, an anti-inflammatory omega-3 blend. Yumwoof formulates its diets with veterinary nutritionists and cites more than 3,000 clinical studies in canine nutrition. Each batch is third-party tested for safety, purity and heavy metals. The company said the shelf-stable format allows independent retailers to offer raw-style nutrition without freezer space or cold-chain logistics.

These three products and their manufacturers were selected by the IndiePet Board for their quality, innovation and independent-channel commitment.

For decades, neighborhood pet retailers have been the critical link between cutting-edge pet products and pet parents. Innovative manufacturers, forward-looking distributors, passionate independent pet retailers and early-adopting pet owners have created an indie pet ecosystem — an ecosystem that has driven much of the pet industry’s growth as well as significant improvements in animal wellbeing. IndiePet is the only organization that is tightly focused on strengthening this ecosystem of approximately 8,000 independent and neighborhood pet retail locations serving pets and pet parents in North America.
