“Some of the biggest drawbacks consumers have about owning a small animal pet are odor control and cage cleaning, so products that solve odor issues and make cage cleaning easier are important for improving the overall small animal pet ownership experience,” Mary Ann Loveland, an associate brand manager for Kaytee Hard Goods, told Pet Age for the article, “Small Pet, Big Smell,” in the November 2016 issue.
Covering up an unpleasant odor from a rabbit, ferret or other small animal’s habitat is the equivalent of slapping a patch on a well-worn tire: It’s only a temporary solution to the problem, and it’s only a matter of time before it needs attention again.
The products that are must-have items on a retailer’s shelves—and those that are generally considered most beneficial to pet owners—are the ones that combat the source of the smell while being safe for the companion pet and its owner. It’s worthwhile and helpful for consumers to have access to cleaners that disinfect, deodorize and minimize the spread of bacteria.
Controlling odor related to small pets won’t be a big deal if the right products are easy to find on store shelves. If these items are available to small animal owners, then they can be considered repeat customers for the life of their beloved critters.
