In a nationwide relief effort to support the people and pets affected by the recent hurricane season, Pet Valu helped raise over half a million dollars in a partnership with its sister brand, Pet Supermarket. The two companies—both specialty retailers of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories—ran a month-long donation drive at all 550 of their stores with the proceeds benefitting local animal shelters in the areas damaged by hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria. The campaign launched on September 1 with a joint-company donation of $100,000 in pet food and products and grew through the generosity of the pet chains’ customers, employees and vendors across the country. In all, $232,220 worth of donations were collected at Pet Valu stores and $114,938 worth at Pet Supermarket stores. Pet Valu also donated an extra 116 pallets of pet care essentials, estimated at over $313,200 in value.
“Partnering with the animal shelters serving our local communities is inherent to Pet Valu’s mission, and when one area is hit by a disaster as devastating as hurricanes Harvey, Irma and Maria, we’re going to come together and do all that we can to help,” said Joe Dent, chief store operations officer at Pet Valu. “We are fortunate to have one of the most generous and caring customer bases who came out in droves to support the animal shelters and families in the areas hit the hardest.”
Other campaigns supporting animal shelters and causes held by Pet Valu throughout the year include its recent Patriotic Pets fundraiser for The U.S. War Dogs Association, its Thanks for Giving pet food drive each November and its annual calendar sales to raise money for organizations fighting animal abuse, among others. So far in 2017, Pet Valu has raised more than $2 million for a variety of pet-related causes.
