There is a new destination in Concord, California, and it’s unlike anything else in town.

Joybound People & Pets has announced the re-opening of the Joybound Thrift Store, which has now expanded to include a Cat Lounge & Adoption Center at 1950 Market Street, Suite I, in Concord. This inspiring space combines sustainable shopping, feline fun, and animal advocacy, all under one roof and features the first cat lounge of its kind in Concord.

“This is more than a grand re-opening; it’s a reimagining of how communities can support animal wellness,” said Miguel Abi-hassan, Chief of Programs, Joybound People & Pets. “By uniting adoption, advocacy, and sustainable shopping, we are creating new ways for people to connect with our mission. The Cat Lounge offers a peaceful space to slow down, spend time with adoptable cats, and experience the healing power of the human–animal bond. We’re proud to bring this unique experience to Concord.”

The new Joybound Thrift Store, Cat Lounge & Adoption Center may be in a fresh new space, but it is built on a strong foundation of compassion that began right next door in this very Concord complex, with a small but passionate team of volunteers.

Joybound’s mission has since grown to reflect not only the importance of rescue and adoption, but also the lasting value of community programs that keep pets and their people together. The current mission continues to reflect a truth that Joybound has known since the start, the human-animal bond has the power to promote healing, increase joy and build community.

Open Monday through Saturday, the Cat Lounge offers a peaceful, thoughtfully designed space where guests can spend quality time with adoptable cats. It is an experience that fosters connections, encourages relaxation, and supports enrichment for the animals.

How it works:

  • Free to visit. Donations are welcome and appreciated.
  • Visits are on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • All guests must check in at the adoption center before entering.
  • Visits last up to 15 minutes to ensure everyone has a chance to enjoy the space.
  • If you would like additional time with a particular cat or want to explore adoption, Joybound’s friendly staff is happy to help.
  • Children welcome, with adult supervision.

It is a feel-good destination with a tangible impact because shopping local here means uplifting lives. Every thrifted treasure has purpose. Whether you are browsing for gently loved cookware, clothing, handbags or unique home décor, all purchases at the Joybound Thrift Store support community programs that keep pets healthy and where they belong… with the people who love them.
