Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, announced the results of its annual Pet Appreciation Month fundraising and pet adoption efforts and its fifth annual Come Clean for Cancer fundraiser benefiting the Animal Cancer Foundation.

During Pet Appreciation Month (April), Pet Valu customers donated over $685,000 in dollars and product for local shelters such as Philadoptables and Providence Animal Shelter in Philadelphia, BARCS in Baltimore, and Central Ohio Pit Savers in Columbus. In addition, during Pet Valu’s National Adoption Weekend, which partnered stores with local rescues, 1,076 pets found their forever homes.

This year’s fifth annual Come Clean for Cancer event raised $60,000 for the Animal Cancer Foundation. During the two-day fundraiser, which took place during Pet Cancer Awareness Month (May), proceeds from the retailer’s self-serve dog washing stations were donated to the foundation, an organization dedicated to finding a cure for cancer by funding research and increasing public awareness of comparative oncology, the study of naturally-occurring cancer in people and pets. More than $167,000 has been raised since the inaugural fundraiser in 2014.

Pet Valu is dedicated to helping local pets in need and does so through various fundraisers and donation drives it hosts throughout the year. Now through September 11, the national retailer is hosting its annual Patriotic Pets fundraiser benefiting the U.S. War Dogs Association.
