Every quarter, the ZIWI USA office participates in donating and volunteering with local organizations to improve the environment and lives of the communities it belongs to. Each Fall, ZIWI partners with Harvesters, a Kansas City based nonprofit, that helps feed the hungry in 26 counties of northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. With 323,000 people who are food insecure in this area, and 1 in 6 children who go to bed hungry each night, ZIWI was happy to hit the ground running in fundraising and volunteering efforts. Harvesters donated over 76.94 million pounds of food last year, and with the rising cost of living and food, ZIWI wanted to continue helping aid in their efforts to feed the hungry.

The ZIWI USA team participated in a coin drive, which sparked some friendly competition in the office, ultimately raising $1,837.29 in employee contribution, which was matched by a $5,000 donation from the company itself for a grand total of $6,837.29. With Harvesters dollar for dollar matching program, the total contribution on behalf of ZIWI totaled $13,674.58, meaning the company will help provide 27,350 meals for those in need in the Kansas City area.

The spirit of giving did not stop at the donation. On September 23, the entire ZIWI office headed into the local branch to volunteer and assist with the incredible work that Harvesters is doing. The team was a part of assembling 965 BackSnack kits, which are weekly backpacks filled with nutritious, child-friendly food for schoolchildren at elementary and some middle schools to take home over the weekend. Harvesters’ after school, summer and weekend feeding programs for children fill an important gap, relieving the burden and anxiety a family may face when they aren’t sure where their next meal may come from, helping children focus on their education, not hungry stomachs.
