Press release: Wag Heaven
Wag Heaven Pet Supplies and Self-Serve Dog Wash is partnering with local rescue agencies and animal shelters, including the Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, Georgetown Animal Shelter and Georgetown Animal Outreach, to offer free pet food to individuals and families who have committed to foster adoptable dogs and cats.
“We applaud those in the community who foster a cat or dog as a way to help shelters free up space for additional animals in need during the coronavirus pandemic,” says Jeff Manley, co-owner of Wag Heaven. “We are doing our part to assist fosters with the added cost of feeding by providing bags of dog and cat food to them at no charge as a gesture of appreciation.”
The World Small Animal Veterinary Association and the World Health Organization state that there is no evidence that companion animals can be infected with or spread COVID-19. But the coronavirus pandemic has had a dramatic affect on animal rescue organizations in the city of Georgetown and Williamson County. All shelters are operating under an emergency plan with a great need to make more kennels available.
Fostering a dog or cat is a great way to start. Not only does becoming a foster parent get an animal out of a shelter and into a home, it frees up valuable space and resources, allowing the shelter to welcome even more animals in need. It also helps prevent unnecessary euthanasia. Even if it’s just for a short time, fostering plays an important role in successfully re-homing dogs and cats. Through fostering, homeless dogs and cats learn what it’s like to be a member of a family—a vital step on the way to finding a forever home.
All adoption events have been canceled until further notice. Walk-in visits are not allowed. Curbside pick-up processes are implemented for adopters, fosters and reunions.
