This February, Pet Valu will take the old saying, “you lucky dog” to a whole new level. On February 16, the national retailer of specialty pet products will join millions ringing in the Chinese New Year with its first-ever digital fortune cookie Facebook app in honor of the “Year of the Dog.” The app will randomly generate fortunes that favor the dog lover.

Each fortune will include associated product recommendations, as well as coupons for those products valid through March 2, the end of the 15-day Chinese New Year celebration. Starting February 15, dog lovers can find their fortunes on the Pet Valu Facebook page.

“We love any occasion where we can acknowledge the special bond between dogs and their owners,” said Joe Dent, chief store operations officer for Pet Valu. “The ‘Year of the Dog’ offered us an opportunity to have fun with dog-lovers as we celebrate the Chinese New Year.”

According to the Asian astrology, year of birth and its associated animal can determine a lot about individual personality traits. Dogs are the 11th sign in the zodiac and are seen as independent, sincere, loyal and decisive and an animal that isn’t afraid of difficulties in life. The Chinese zodiac moves in a 12-year cycle, and those born in 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006 and 2018 are known as born in the “Year of the Dog.”
