Press release: West Paw
B Corp Month is an annual, global campaign held every year in March where the global B Corp Community and B Lab join together to celebrate everything it means to be a B Corp. Today, West Paw, who led the pet industry as the first Certified B Corporation known best for designing pet products for the love of both pets and the planet, recognizes the company’s 10th anniversary as a Certified B Corporation and reaffirms its commitment to championing the movement.
“Now more than ever, our work is to use our business as a force for good to help future generations enjoy a healthy planet, productive work, and strong communities,” said Spencer Williams, West Paw CEO. “At West Paw, we are all about people. It’s not about striving to be the best business in the world, but instead we work towards being a business best for the world. As a Certified B Corporation, we believe in putting ourselves out there for the public to gain insight into our business, but it also pushes us to do better, for ourselves, for our customers, our employees and beyond.”
B Corp Certification comes from a careful, independent measure of West Paw’s entire social and environmental performance. From supply chain transparency to workplace safety, initiatives in giving back to sustainability practices, West Paw is proud of earning top scores in the rigorous B Lab assessment process year-after-year.
“We’re so proud to have been a Certified B Corporation for a decade, and that we brought the movement to the pet industry in the first place,” Williams added. “It’s important that we take this company milestone and B Corp Month as an opportunity to raise awareness of the movement with the hopes that we inspire other businesses to get involved and commit to making a positive mark on the world.”
Founded in 1996, West Paw has been family owned and operated from Bozeman, Montana. The company has recycled almost 150,000 pounds of award-winning dog toys, spun over 16 million water bottles into dog beds and toy stuffing, and innovated a toy line, Seaflex, that reclaims ocean-bound plastic. West Paw’s complete line of Creamy, Freeze-Dried and Air-Dried Dog Treats are all humanely raised, sustainably sourced, healthy, nutritious and made in the U.S.A. West Paw was a Founding Member of the Pet Sustainability Coalition, so that more companies can increase positive impact, too. In 2015, West Paw became the first company doing business in Montana to change their corporate status to a Benefit Corporation. And in 2021, West Paw also expanded its commitment to their recycling program, Join the Loop, by offering free in-store recycling collection “centers” to their retailers.
“We envision a world where business success is friendly to people and the planet,” said Williams. “It is beyond creating sustainable pet products that bring joy. It’s our promise to grow our company for good, to be real and to humanize business, and create joyful connections while we solve for tomorrow. That commitment has always been, and will continue to be, at the heart of our work here at West Paw.”
