Press release: Wag Heaven

Wag Heaven Pet Supplies & Self-Serve Dog Wash, with two stores in Georgetown, Texas, a suburb of Austin, has been named the 2020 Small Business of the Year by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce at its Annual Awards Banquet, held virtually this year on March 3.

The Small Business of the Year Award is given annually to recognize a small business that has impacted and contributed to the community and the business environment in the Greater Georgetown, Texas area.

“Wag Heaven did something that is quite exceptional in the business community during the pandemic,” said Jim Johnson, president and CEO of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce.”

Even though it is a new business, Wag Heaven opened a second store during their first 18 months. In addition, their community work within the city and surrounding pet communities is a major factor why they were recognized with this coveted award.”

Over the past year and a half, Wag Heaven raised and donated over 20 thousand dollars to help many non-profit and pet rescues organizations. RSPCA of Australia is one of the recipients of their fundraising efforts, to help animals impacted by the wild fires in Australia. Local organizations include Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter, Georgetown Animal Shelter, Georgetown Animal Outreach, Sun City Pet Club, Texas Humane Heroes, Playful Child Foundation, ROCK Ride on Center for Kids, Georgetown Palace Theater, Georgetown Independent School District, Georgetown Fire Department and Williamson County Sherriff K-9 Unit.

Wag Heaven organized two separate Drive-Through Pet Food Banks in December and January to assist pet owners struggling to feed their dogs and cats during the pandemic, with assistance from their distributors and manufacturers, such as the Animal Supply Company and American Distribution and Manufacturing Company. These Drive-Through Pet Food Banks also help pet owners from abandoning and surrendering their pets to the already overcrowded shelters. They’ve also partnered with local veterinarian Jarrell Animal Hospital to provide Low-Cost Pet Vaccine Clinics every two months to offer cost-effective options for essential dog and cat vaccinations.

“Helping our community is a major inspiration for our existence” says Jeff Manley, Co-Owner of Wag Heaven.  “By providing support to those needing assistance, especially during this time of economic uncertainty, it’s easier for us all to pull through.”
