Press release: Raised Right

The Innovative Veterinary Care (IVC) Journal has announced that Raised Right has been chosen as the winner of the 2019 Innovation Award for Nutrition.

“Innovative Veterinary Care Journal is proud to celebrate the companies that push to make a difference in animal care. This year’s winners have gone above and beyond to make veterinary practice easier on the patients and better for the vets. Leaders like this take risks to present something new to a wider audience, serving to propel animal care forward through passion, research and innovation,” says Dana Cox, IVC Journal’s co-founder and editor-in-chief.

“It’s an honor to be recognized by the IVC Journal for the impact our recipes are making in the lives of dogs and cats,” says Braeden Ruud, Raised Right’s co-founder/CEO.”

Raised Right’s food is lightly cooked in a USDA inspected human-grade facility and every ingredient has passed the same standards necessary for human consumption. They work with veterinarian, Dr. Karen Becker, and pet food formulation expert, Steve Brown, to create limited ingredient recipes that are low in carbs. Most of their recipes have less than two percent carbs because they don’t use any high carb fillers like potato, rice, oats, yam, squash, barley, parsnips, corn or wheat.

“As a proactive veterinarian, I would say this is the perfect diet for preventing many degenerative diseases plaguing pets today,” says Karen Becker, DVM. “But an excellent quality, species-appropriate fresh food diet is also critical for disease recovery, including animals dealing with chronic inflammatory issues (allergies, arthritis, immune-mediated diseases) and metabolic diseases (diabetes, cancer, thyroid disorders, obesity), as well as age-related degeneration.”

Raised Right is the first company to voluntarily submit a recipe to be tested by Check Your Pet Food. The results from testing their Turkey Adult Dog Recipe showed that the guaranteed analysis matches their label and that the nutritional analysis meets AAFCO’s standards for a complete and balanced diet for adult dogs.

“Every single ingredient in our recipes has a purpose,” says Ruud. “We were able to formulate our adult dog recipes to meet AAFCO’s requirements for a complete and balanced diet using only whole foods, without having to add any additional vitamins or minerals. There are only nine ingredients in our pork recipe, 10 ingredients in both our turkey and chicken recipes and 11 ingredients in our beef recipe.”

In addition to having innovative recipes, Raised Right also takes food safety very seriously. Every single batch they cook is lab safety tested for E. coli, listeria and salmonella. They have a hold release program where they don’t ever ship your pet’s food unless it passes the lab safety test. The lab results from every batch are posted on their website for everyone to see, along with a map tracing all their ingredients to their source, and a video showing how the food gets made. They were recently recognized for the emphasis they place on safety and transparency by being named to The List of Trusted Pet Foods by Susan Thixton from the Truth About Pet Food.
