The Pet Sustainability Coalition (PSC), the pet industry’s leading sustainability partner, recently announced it will be hosting the industry’s first-ever Sustainability Section at Global Pet Expo, presented by the American Pet Products Association (APPA) and Pet Industry Distributors Association (PIDA).

Created in partnership with APPA, the section will feature eight Accredited members along a single aisle, easily identifiable on the floor map and by a hanging aisle sign. The section begins at the PSC Booth 541.

“I’m excited that APPA has taken such a powerful step in its commitment to sustainability in the industry,” said PSC executive director Jim Lamancusa. “The data shows that 80 percent of pet owners consider sustainability when making purchasing decisions and also that sustainable pet products are growing at 7.1 times faster than conventional. We are thrilled that APPA has given us the chance to elevate some of our Accredited top performers in the sustainability arena and draw attention to this fast growing and profitable area of the industry.”

The novel sustainability section is co-created with APPA, and is sponsored by five sustainability leaders in the industry: eShipping, a distribution chain management solution that encompasses both people and services for all modes; Healthy Pet, an upcycler of wood, pulp and paper remnants to create pet bedding and litter; inClover, an animal wellness supplement company that supports better health from the inside out; MFiber, specializing in non-chemically produced fiber ingredient grown by local farmers and manufactured in the U.S.; and West Paw, a manufacturer of U.S.-made dog toys and products sustainably made for durability and canine enrichment.

Companies exhibiting in the section have undergone the PSC Accreditation process, meaning they have achieved the top performer status in PSC membership.

Accreditation involves a comprehensive assessment, a rigorous third party verification process, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

The exhibiting companies are:

  • Austin and Kat

  • BetterBone

  • Bright Planet

  • Brutus Broth

  • dsm-fermenich

  • InClover

  • Mondi Jackson

  • Tuesday’s Natural Dog Company

Jeremy Baker, chief growth officer at APPA, states, “APPA has strengthened its commitment to the growing sustainability movement within the pet industry. Working with PSC to create this pilot section allows our guests to get a glimpse into some of PSC’s highest performers, and to learn more about how sustainability supports our member businesses.”
