Press release: Pet Supermarket

After a fire tore through Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando in September, Pet Supermarket, a premium pet supply retailer with over 200 locations throughout the Southeast U.S., acted quickly in support of the nonprofit shelter.

Pet Supermarket’s 16 Orlando-area stores came together to host a spontaneous fundraiser from September 23 to October 31 during which customers were asked to make $1, $3 and $5 donations at checkout. In total, Pet Supermarket customers raised $41,374 for Pet Alliance of Greater Orlando, one of Central Florida’s oldest and largest animal welfare agencies.

“When we saw the devastation that happened to our shelter partner, we knew we had a responsibility to help,” said Aileen Bilyeu, vice president of marketing at Pet Supermarket. “Our organization strives to enhance the lives of pets and their people, and this fundraiser makes that mission a reality.”

As a result of the fire, Pet Alliance moved surviving animals to its facility in Sanford. Funds raised from the 16 Pet Supermarket locations will provide quality care for these trauma-stricken dogs and cats and support the building of a new shelter in Orlando.

On November 30, the team from Pet Supermarket’s Winter Park location presented Pet Alliance representatives with the donations collected during the fundraiser.

“We were not expecting that,” said Cathy Rodgers, Pet Alliance’s director of philanthropy and marketing, upon receiving the $41,374 check. “That’s amazing!”
