Gainesville Couple to Open City’s First Scenthound Dog Grooming Business

Scenthound, on a mission to keep dogs healthy and clean, has recently announced it is opening Gainesville’s first and only dog wellness and grooming service. The new location, at 2835 SW 91^st in the Haile Publix Market Square is opening late May. This is the first of four locations that Joseph and Kathryn Pizzurro are planning to open throughout north central Florida. Scenthound takes a wellness-based approach that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for dogs. Embedded in the name, Scenthound focuses on the five core areas of maintenance: Skin, Coat, Ears, Nails and Teeth.

The company’s Scent Techs are fully trained to give each dog the care it requires — regardless of the breed — and the membership program allows for dog parents to have the peace of mind that their dog is cared for on a routine basis. Pet parents can select a membership most appropriate for their dog and add additional grooming services on an as-needed basis.

“For years we looked for a community-based business and once we learned about Scenthound, their concept drew us in instantly,” said Joseph Pizzurro. “Gainesville is an amazing community filled with individuals and families that clearly value what a dog can bring to their lives.”

Before joining the Scenthound pack, Joseph Pizzurro received an MBA from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and worked in the medical device market for over 30 years. Kathryn Pizzurro has over 15 years of experience working in the orthopedic trauma market and currently serves as an editor and freelance writer. The couple are parents to high school students Caroline and Mary, along with their 8-year-old rescue pup, Pi. The Pizzurro family is looking forward to providing their pet loving community of Gainesville an easy, economical and health-focused way to care for their dogs.

Scenthound was founded in 2015 after CEO Tim Vogel spent more than 10 years running both a mobile grooming business and local grooming Scenters, and seeing firsthand the shortcomings within a booming pet industry and the lack of education surrounding dog care. Vogel began a mission to give dogs and their owners a fast, easy, and affordable solution that not only keeps them clean and looking great but maintains their overall health and wellness.
