The Department of Labor’s (DOL) highly anticipated revisions to the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) were released in late May. The regulations modify the exemptions to overtime rules for certain white collar employees (executive, administrative, professional and computing positions) and highly compensated employees. These new rules become effective December 1, 2016.

As has been widely reported, the most significant change is the increase in the salary threshold for white collar workers from the current $23,660 per year to $47,476 annually. The increase, while less than originally proposed by DOL, is nonetheless a more than 100% jump from the current rate.

The Small Business Legislative Council, of which PIDA is a member, has prepared a 38 minute webinar explaining the new DOL rules. They apply to virtually all employers.
