Press release: Chicken Soup for the Soul

Chicken Soup for the Soul, a leading super premium pet food company, recently donated 5,884 pounds of their nutritious pet food to help feed animals in need in communities near Andrews Air Force Base, Prince George’s County, Maryland. The donation is part of the pet food company’s Fill A Bowl… Feed A Soul (“FABFAS”) program, a national campaign targeting the donation of one million meals for shelter pets annually.

The nearly three tons of premium dog and cat food will provide approximately 24,000 meals to animals in need. It was received by the commissary at Andrews Air Force Base and distributed to local shelters and food banks in their community. Recipients of this generous donation were: Capital Area Food Bank, Show Your Soft Side, Animal Welfare League of Alexandria, Animal Allied Rescue Foundation and Saving Grace of Maryland.

“Chicken Soup for the Soul’s FABFAS program was created to help feed pets in need nationwide,” said Ed Uebele, SVP Sales and Marketing for Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. “We are so proud to work with those at Andrews Air Force Base who not only identified the need, but helped to organize the donation of our pet food to these incredible organizations. We believe that every pet should enjoy the benefits of premium nutrition. Healthy pets are happy pets and more readily adoptable.”

“The Joint Base Andrews commissary was honored to be chosen as a donation site for the Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food Company’s “Fill A Bowl… Feed A Soul,” program, says Flecia Gardner, Acting Commissary
Director. “What a wonderful program to have for pet parents in our community! Joint Base Andrews commissary not only participated in the pet food donation but was able to also collect human food donations for our partners at the Capital Area Food Bank.”

“We are so grateful to Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food for their generous donation of pet food,” says Joanna Fortin, Director of Community Programs at Animal Welfare League of Alexandria. “This donation comes at a time when many pet owners in our community are struggling to afford their own basic needs as well as those of their pets. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is proud to support these pet owners through the generosity of donations like these to help keep pets in their homes with the families who love them.”

“During these trying times we not only want to help those pets waiting to be adopted, but also assist those families that may be struggling to make ends meet,” says Jeanne Blandford, Senior Director of Marketing for Chicken Soup for the Soul Pet Food. “Families need to stay together to support and comfort one another. That is what families do. And since pets are family members and are such a huge support system, we all need to do our part. A family should never have to surrender their pet because they cannot afford their food.”
