Press release: American Century Investments

John O’Hurley was part of a November “ribbon tugging” earlier this month to celebrate the grand opening of American Century Investments’ Canine Capital, an onsite subsidized doggy daycare that is available exclusively for employee use in its headquarters location in Kansas City, Missouri.

“Anywhere we can include and celebrate the dogs in our life is always a healthy experience. This is a great example of that. Our dogs do extraordinary things for us,” said O’Hurley during the grand opening ceremony. “I like to be involved with great companies. I tip my hat to American Century.”

Canine Capital is a unique workplace benefit that adds value and reduces stress as employees are returning to the office more and more post pandemic. It will offer three play yards on the Main Street campus that the company acquired in 2007. The operation is open Monday to Friday during American Century’s business hours, and employees are encouraged to visit and walk their dogs over the lunch hours at the city park adjacent to American Century’s headquarters. In addition, employees traveling for business can drop their dogs at Canine Capital for local boarding and pick up their dogs when they return.

American Century employees voted on the winning name, Canine Capital, as part of a survey, in which hundreds of American Century’s local employees reported that they are interested in bringing their dogs to onsite doggy daycare. Thanks to the on-site daycare enables, employees will be able to enjoy a mid-workday play session with their dog or take it for a walk.

American Century is one of the first employers to offer this type of benefit to employees, which addresses a big concern for people returning to work after being so close with their pets and gaining pandemic puppies.

American Century partnered with Woof’s Play & Stay, a dog daycare, boarding, grooming and training business, which will run the operation while American Century subsidizes the cost for employees. Regularly recognized as a top dog care facility in the country, the company has 10 locations around Kansas and Missouri. Andy Wiltz, owner of Woof’s Play & Stay, joined O’Hurley and Jonathan Thomas, president and CEO of American Century, at the “ribbon tugging” ceremony.

“I am so excited to be able to partner with American Century Investments to bring what we think is the nation’s first private employer sponsored doggy daycare,” said Wiltz. “Jonathan [Thomas] and his team are building a strong culture where the 4-legged family members are treated like all of the other family members. This will really set American Century apart from others in ways of recruiting, retention and re-building that in-person culture that people want.”

American Century Investments is a leading global asset manager focused on delivering investment results and building long-term client relationships while supporting breakthrough medical research. Founded in 1958, American Century Investments’ 1,400 employees serve financial professionals, institutions, corporations and individual investors from offices in New York; London; Frankfurt; Hong Kong; Sydney; Santa Clara, California; and Kansas City, Missouri.
