In response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton that made a devastating impact on the people and their pets in the Southeast, Greater Good Charities mobilized to provide rescue, relief and recovery efforts. With a $100,000 grant made immediately available by PetSmart Charities, Greater Good Charities has offered to aid pets in the impacted communities.
“From providing immediate relief to families impacted, to helping animal shelters by providing them with food and supplies and conducting emergency flights of shelter pets to make space for displaced pets, Greater Good Charities mobilized in response to need to help communities impacted by the catastrophic back-to-back hurricanes,” said Liz Baker, CEO for Greater Good Charities. “To date, we have provided over $8.7 million in relief to 50 impacted communities in five states in the Southeast and PetSmart Charities was critical in ensuring we could help pets in need quickly.”
Greater Good Charities is a global nonprofit organization that works to help people, pets, and the planet by mobilizing in response to need and amplifying the good. Greater Good Charities has helped millions of people and pets in 26 countries that have been affected by disasters including hurricanes, wildfires, earthquakes and floods.
Disaster response grants made by PetSmart Charities promote people and pets staying together during crises, when they need each other most. When people suffer during natural disasters, their pets often suffer too. As important members of the family, pets, too, have urgent needs for shelter, medical care, nutritious food and social support.
“When disasters strike, every member of the family needs support,” said Aimee Gilbreath, president of PetSmart Charities. “Our trusted partners at Greater Good Charities made a swift impact on the ground to help pets and their people when they needed it most. We know they’ll continue to lend support as communities rebuild and recover.”
