Growth in international markets, along with a loyal following for its air-dried pet food, has seen New Zealand-based premium pet food manufacturer, Ziwi, selected as a Best Medium Business Category finalist in the New Zealand International Business Awards 2018.

The New Zealand International Business Awards are run by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise and celebrate the success of New Zealand businesses on the world stage, recognizing excellence and innovative practice.

Richard Lawrence, Ziwi’s Managing Director, said he is delighted Ziwi has been chosen as a finalist for the prestigious award.

“The vision to create air-dried, nutrient-packed meals that are free from grains, fillers and artificial additives has given us a real point of difference here and in international markets.  Ziwi’s high quality ingredients and high meat formulation have attracted an enormous following of cats and dogs around the world,” Lawrence said.

Ziwi operates in 17 overseas markets, providing 96 percent of the company’s total revenue. These include North America, Australia, Asia, Europe and the United Arab Emirates.

The company’s international sales have grown by 162 percent over the last three years.  Mainland China is the most recent addition to Ziwi’s sales territories, rapidly becoming a major market in less than 24 months. Much of the growth in China is fueled by growing wealth and booming pet ownership, with more than 50 million registered dogs and 40 million cats.

Ziwi’s significant expansion has meant almost doubling its staff over the last 18 months with the addition of 59 people. In partnership with ANZCO Foods, Ziwi has also established a new South Island facility to produce pet treats and oral health products, as well as to double production capability of its existing air-dried products.

Winners of the New Zealand International Business Awards will be announced at a black-tie ceremony at SKYCITY in Auckland on November 8, 2018.
