Old Mother Hubbard, maker of home-style baked dog treats, returned to its birthplace in Gloucester, Massachusetts on Saturday, June 18, to celebrate its 90th anniversary.

The celebration, held at the Gloucester Dog Park in Stage Fort Park, hosted dogs and their owners for a day of pet-friendly festivities, including a Boston-themed dog costume contest, doggy ice cream trucks and biscuit bars, and raffles for a year’s supply of Old Mother Hubbard dog treats. In a show of community support, local organizations and businesses were also invited, including the Cape Ann Animal Shelter, from which animals were available for adoption.

Old Mother Hubbard Baking Company began in Gloucester, Massachusetts, with a recipe originally developed as a wholesome snack for fisherman while out at sea. According to legend, the company transitioned to pet treats when a sailor gave one of the biscuits to his dog, who happily gobbled it up.
