Wag N’ Wash Natural Food & Bakery, a full-line specialty retail and grooming center for cats and dogs, will be opening a location in Louisville, Kentucky. The new store, located at 1201 Herr Lane, is slated to open in September and will be the first of five the Denver-based franchise hopes to open in the area over the next several years.

“At Wag N’ Wash, we understand that your cats and dogs are more than just pets, they are cherished members of the family,” said Paige Franklin, who will own and operate the first store. “I’m excited and proud to provide local pet owners with a store where they can wash ’em, feed ’em and spoil ’em, all in one cool place!”

Prior to Wag N’ Wash, Franklin spent nearly 30 years working as an Information Technology executive. Although the pay was fair, she found herself unhappy and stressed, and barely having the time to spend with her 10-year-old daughter and two dogs. Her deep love of animals dates back to her childhood when she started rescuing animals. She had as many as five dogs at a time when she was a child.

“Louisville is widely regarded as one of the most pet-friendly cities and we’re thrilled to have found a partner that will not only introduce the brand to the area, but also shares the same passion and excitement for animals as we do,” said Dan Remus, co-founder of Wag N’ Wash.

Founded in 1999, Wag N’ Wash offers a community for pet enthusiasts to come, find quality goods and services for their pet companions, and simply be pet people, according to a company statement. Among the store’s offerings are various brands of all-natural pet foods for dogs and cats, high-end supplements, collars and leads, toys, supplies and unique goods. In addition, Wag N’ Wash’s do-it-yourself dog wash facility is designed to put convenience and fun into the “chore” of washing dogs. And of course, no trip to Wag N’ Wash would be complete without visiting the store’s in-house bakery, rare in the pet store market, which offers treats such as Liver Bites, Pumpkin Ravioli, Poochie Sushi and a variety of pies, cakes and muffins using human grade ingredients.

Expert nutritional staff is always available to help customers make the best nutritional choices; and all the while, furry friends are mingling throughout the store.

Each Wag N’ Wash store also actively supports local non-profits who share the company’s mission of enhancing the quality of life for companion pets and their guardians. In 2016 alone, Wag N’ Wash stores donated over $100,000 worth of gourmet biscuits, all-natural pet food, free washes, free merchandise and monetary donations back to their communities, according to the company. In addition, Wag N’ Wash works with local rescue groups and has single-handedly been responsible for the adoption of more than 2,100 cats and dogs through its adoption fairs.

The average investment to own and operate a Wag N’ Wash 3,500-4,200 square foot store is approximately $638,329. This includes the franchise fee of $40,000, build-out costs, training expenses, the first three months of rent, furniture, signage, computer equipment, inventory and supplies, initial advertising and grand opening costs. Three- and five-unit agreements are also available to select and qualifying candidates.
