The American Choice Awards Announces Dogs LOVE Kale as National Best Brand Winner

The American Choice Awards today announced that Dogs LOVE Kale has won the National Best Brand Award in the All Natural Pet Treats category.

Dogs LOVE Kale was founded by serial entrepreneurial duo Paula Savarese and Dawn Ward somewhat by chance, according to company statement. While munching on homemade kale chips in their kitchen, they noticed that the dogs’ ears perked up when they heard the crunching.

“Of course they heard the crunching, so we gave them some; they wanted more, and more, and more,” Savarese said.

The two were soon business partners, cooking up variations of kale-based treats in all new flavors. Today, Dogs LOVE Kale offers eight crunchy varieties, including Peanutty, Apple Crisp, Punkin, Tropical Delight, Sweet Tater, Chicken & Blueberry, Beef & Carrot and Turkey & Sweet Potato, as well as three soft treats packed with the superfood Moringa, featuring Turkey/Salmon & Cranberry, Chicken & Sweet Potato and Beef & Apple.

The company describes kale as a super antioxidant that contains essential vitamins, including beta carotene, calcium, vitamin K, vitamin C and lutein. Savarese and Ward add flax seed, which they say helps dogs’ digestion and makes their coats softer and shinier with healthier skin underneath.

More than 1,500 brands are judged by American consumers across 190 categories. Finalists and Winners will be announced throughout the year in important Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG) categories such as Food & Beverage, Beauty, Household Care, Health & Personal Care, and Kids & Pets. 2016 Nominees include selections from Crest, Purina, Nestlé, Oreo and L’Oréal, as well as many leading smaller brands. The Best Brand Awards are 100% consumer-voted.
