Pet lovers and avid athletes are going to the dogs for the 4th Annual Woof! Woof! 5K Run/Walk Over Pet Cancer. The event, which is presented by TailsSpin, Fleet Feet Savannah and Blue Buffalo, is an effort to increase awareness and raise funds for pet cancer research and treatment, as well as for local pet rescue agencies and Jacob G. Smith Elementary School.

The 4th Annual Woof! Woof! 5K Run/Walk Over Pet Cancer will take place on Saturday, December 10, from 8 a.m. to noon in Savannah, Georgia. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m. with the run/walk scheduled for 9 a.m., immediately following the Pet Memorial and Celebration service. The pancake breakfast will be served at 9:30 a.m., and the Savannah PAWrade and pet costume contest begins at 10:30 a.m. Race and pet costume contest winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. The event will take place outside of Jacob G. Smith Elementary School, located in Habersham Village at 210 Lamara Drive. It is $30 per participant, and donations will be accepted. To register, volunteer, sponsor, donate or become a vendor, please visit WoofWoofRun.com.

This family-friendly fundraising event aims to bring the community together to celebrate the collective effort of saving the lives of pets through cancer research and awareness. The Jacob G. Smith Elementary School PTA will host a complimentary pancake breakfast for the Savannah community, which includes a special pet-friendly version that four-legged friends can also enjoy.

“This is one of our favorite events of the year,” said Jusak Yang Bernhard, co-owner of TailsSpin Pet Food and Accessories. “It’s such a feel-good morning with so many animals and pet owners connecting with one another to help end pet cancer. And remember, the more awareness and money that we can raise, the more animals we can save.”

Sponsored by Pets at Peace by Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, the Pet Memorial and Celebration will have Pet Celebration Lanterns, which will be free to attendees, in honor of their cherished companions. The service will also feature a touching photo of each supporter’s beloved pet to display.

Participants should email their pet memorial photo by December 5 to [email protected].

Don’t forget to dress your pet for the wildly popular Savannah PAWrade, a costume contest hosted by local celebrity judges. To commemorate the event, a photographer will be on site taking holiday portraits of your pets. Tails will wag over goodie bags provided by sponsors and local partners.

Special thanks to participating sponsors Savannah Morning News/Savannah Magazine and Jacob G. Smith Elementary School, as well as other community partners and local sponsors.
