Dr. Elsey’s Fund to Cure Cancer: Lend a Paw, Save a Life

Dr. Elsey's//February 1, 2022

Over 30,000 people are diagnosed with multiple myeloma, the second most common type of blood cancer, each year. When Dr. Elsey’s co-founder Kathy Elsey was diagnosed, she and her husband, Dr. Bruce Elsey, chose to utilize their corporate success to benefit a philanthropic cause: the commitment to cure cancer.

In a unique and empowering position to become catalysts for change, the Elsey family established the Dr. Elsey’s Fund to Cure Cancer in 2009 to aid the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) and push advancements even further in cancer research. With heartfelt dedication through their Cats Against Cancer campaign, the Elseys’ have generously donated $13 million since the creation of the fund. In addition to the more than 500,000 supporters they have inspired to match their contributions, the fund has generated nearly $21 million in donations since its creation.

Our partnership with the MMRF has aided researchers to accomplish the following actions:

  • Tripled life expectancy for those suffering from multiple myeloma
  • Brought treatments to trial 60 percent faster than the industry standard
  • Opened over 70 trials of 35 new therapies
  • Has had 10 drugs approved by the FDA

Interested in lending a paw? Through the Save $3, Give $3 coupon initiative, for every $3 saved on a 35-pound or 40-pound bag of Ultra Litter or 40-pound bag of Cat Attract, Dr. Elsey’s will donate $3 right back to the MMRF.

MMRF Dr. Elsey Cat Litter Cure CancerFor many battling illnesses, the comfort our pets offer has a tremendous impact on the healing journey. For this very reason, Dr. Bruce Elsey chose to utilize this annual giving campaign to bring awareness to the power behind pet therapy. Interaction with animals has been proven to increase calming endorphin levels, impressively affecting the body’s readiness to heal and produce new cells. Simply petting your cat can provide an automatic relaxation response, which is believed to reduce the amount of medication needed in some cases.
