Press release: Portland Pet Food Company

Portland Pet Food Company (PPFC), a manufacturer of human-grade dog food toppers and treats, is now widely available across Canada at the Pet Valu family of stores.

Pet Valu is a global leader in pet retail with over 600 stores across Canada, including Pet Valu, Bosley’s by Pet Valu, Total Pet, Paulmac’s Pets and Tisol Pet Nutrition & Supply. In the stores where PPFC is available, shoppers will find four human-grade dog food toppers: Rosie’s Beef N’ Rice, Wally’s Salmon N’ Rice, Hopkins’ Pork N’ Potato and Tuxedo’s Chicken & Yams.

PPFC’s products are made with fresh ingredients sourced from the Pacific Northwest. Each recipe was thoughtfully developed with the goal of keeping dogs happy and healthy for as long as possible. For that reason, all of the products are human-grade, contain less than 12 natural ingredients, and are free of any preservatives.

“We’re excited to expand our reach across Canada by forming a relationship with such a great retailer like Pet Valu,” said Katie McCarron, founder of PPFC. “We launched PPFC in 2014 by selling at Portland farmers markets, and today I’m thrilled that we’re widely available across my home country. I know that my Canadian relatives are excited, too, as they’ve already gone out to find PPFC at their local Pet Valu!”

McCarron, born in New West Westminster, British Columbia, Canada has been inspired by her Canadian roots throughout the business. Her current dog, Winnie, was named after Winnipeg, Manitoba, honoring where her mother, Ada Roe Dunn, was born. Her mom also inspired the naming of Grandma Ada’s Turkey & Yams, as she always fed dogs food off her plate.

“Pet Valu is proud to offer a wide selection of pet food in Canada, and we’re delighted that we can now offer our customers PPFC’s dog food toppers,” says Kendalee McKay, chief merchandising officer at Pet Valu. “These high-quality, delicious toppers add variety to meals, helping ensure picky eaters, senior dogs and dogs with sensitive stomachs get the nutrition they need.”

PPFC is a family-owned manufacturer based in Portland, Oregon, that makes human-grade dog meals and treats with ingredients sourced and made in the US. Its mission is to provide pets with the same quality food that their humans eat. Each product contains 11 ingredients or fewer and is free of any preservatives or artificial ingredients. PPFC, certified as a woman-owned business with the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council, was founded in 2014 after McCarron discovered the health benefits of human-grade ingredients through personal experience with her aging dog, Rosie.
