Kicking off on September 24th, the two-week national Fit Pet Challenge encourages owners to make positive health changes for their pet and spreads awareness for the pet obesity epidemic.
The challenge will include daily fitness and health tips from experts and vets, giveaways, prizes, and a chance for individuals to share their fitness goals. During the challenge, participants can post photos on social media with the hashtag #fitpetchallenge to share the ways they choose to get fit with their pets and show their support.
A launch party in New York City celebrated the start of the challenge with a free event at the Salty Paw’s Pet Boutique & Groom Spa. Benefitting the Social Tees Animal Rescue, attendees had the opportunity to check out adoptable dogs and take a 20-minute K9 Fit Club demo class.
According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention, 53 percent of adult dogs and 55 percent of cats in the US are obese or overweight. The fitness challenge will end on October 7, just in time for Pet Obesity Day.
