On Saturday, September 24, Pet Food Express celebrated the opening of its newest store, which includes a permanent cat adoption center. The store, located in Oakland, California, is the company’s 63rd store.
A public/non-profit/corporate three-way partnership, the new, state-of-the-art adoption center is run by Oakland’s Hopalong Animal Rescue, and the group has promised to pull its cats from Oakland Animal Services. This is the first off-site adoption center for Oakland Animal Shelter, and the goal is to reduce cat euthanasia rates to zero in Oakland.
The store also held a mini-adoptathon during opening weekend with Oakland Animal Services, Hopalong and Milo Animal Rescue. Six dogs and 12 cats/kittens were adopted over the weekend.
