Pet wellness company LIX recently announced that its co-founder, Kirstan Sanders, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first individual within the pet industry to graduate with a master’s degree in medical cannabis science and therapeutics from the esteemed University of Maryland. This groundbreaking achievement underscores her commitment to advancing education within the cannabis/hemp industry and her dedication to providing the pet wellness industry with enhanced clarity and access to more education on the use of cannabinoids. Sanders is poised to revolutionize the pet industry with her newfound knowledge and understanding of cannabinoids.

“It’s not enough anymore to just provide the basic knowledge of what cannabinoids do for the health and wellness of our animals. This is a complex plant, and education and studies are evolving rapidly,” said Sanders. “At this stage of the game, we need to do better. The past information and products provided have caused confusion for consumers and a lack of results for the animals. From the start, I have been committed to continuing to advance my education for our customers and to create the best products for the animals. When I saw the expansive program the University of Maryland was offering, I knew this was what I could do to advance LIX and the industry as a whole. So, while Erin was running the day-to-day, I went to work on expanding our knowledge further. While I respect that others have done some certifications in the space, as evolving leaders, we have a duty to our customers and the animals to be further investing in education and offering the very best we can provide.”

The MS in Medical Cannabis Science and Therapeutics program at the University of Maryland, Baltimore, is a trailblazing initiative, being the nation’s first master’s program in Medical Cannabis as a science and a therapeutic. This unique program offers a comprehensive curriculum, providing in-depth instruction in the science, policy, and therapeutic aspects of cannabinoid science.

“I could not be prouder of Kirstan, as this is not an easy program, and she was among some highly educated medical professionals attending as well,” said LIX co-founder Erin Hills. “She stayed committed to completing this two-year program, being top of her class, and a true advocate for the animals. We came into this space with more knowledge than most and started LIX with a passion for elevating the space and offering better for the animals. We already provide products and education at a higher quality than has been previously offered in the industry, and as a result, we are experiencing rapid growth and demand for our products, but we aren’t stopping there; we aren’t in this just to sell products. We truly believe we can offer more for the animals and their people. We must be better, do better, and offer better; that is what our customers can always expect from us. Kirstan obtaining this degree is another way we show it.”

“It has been an honor to have the opportunity to learn from absolute experts in the medical cannabis field. The PhDs, PharmDs, researchers, and physicians who’ve led these courses have made me a better human and a more focused scientist. At the start of this program, I’d say I’m pretty good with animal wellness. I’m a scientist and far more advanced in how I think about this plant and wellness than I ever would have been without these last two years,” added Sanders.

Graduates of this program are equipped with unparalleled abilities to support patients, determine dosing appropriateness, participate in policy and regulation development, and identify and pursue research opportunities related to the effects of phytocannabinoids on health and wellness.
