However, cats often don’t drink as much water as they should, which can lead to dehydration, a dangerous condition that means their bodies aren’t able to function properly. The symptoms of dehydration in cats include sunken eyes, lethargy, loss of appetite, dry mouth, elevated heart rate, decreased skin elasticity and panting. If left untreated, this condition can cause serious health complications that require medical intervention, which is a stressful situation for kitties and their owners.
Thankfully, there are many different types of wet cat foods that can help get more fluids into fickle felines who turn their tiny noses up at the water bowl. These foods can contain broth or gravy; many come in cans, while others are packaged in pouches, etc. Either way, these high-moisture foods are a great way to supplement a kitty’s water intake.
And even if a cat loves to drink water, wet food is still a good addition to their diet because if they only eat dry food, they may be consuming too many carbohydrates. The risk there is that they could potentially becoming overweight or even obese, which, like dehydration, is another dangerous health condition. Wet food is also more “meaty” than kibble, which helps satisfy a cat’s carnivorous appetite and gives them the protein that they physically require.
It’s beneficial for manufacturers to continue producing a wide range of wet cat foods, and for retailers to keep stocking their shelves with these various cans, cups and pouches. These products help keep felines properly nourished, hydrated and at a healthy weight, all while fulfilling their natural cravings for meat. After all, a happy kitty can bring so much joy to a cat lover’s life.
