Private equity bidders KKR & Co. and Hellman & Friedman are both expected to bid $4 billion to purchase Petco Holdings, which operates about 1,300 stores in the U.S.

Apollo Global Management is also considering putting in a bid. Binding offers are due Wednesday, November 18.

Petco’s private equity owners, TPG Partners and Leonard Green, are expected to sell the company instead of pursuing previously announced plans for an initial public offering.

Most of the firms interested in Petco also pursued PetSmart last year.
