EarthKind Raising Awareness for Pet Poison Prevention Month

March 12, 2019

Press release: EarthKind

EarthKind, makers of award-winning, plant-based pest prevention pouches, is raising awareness for pet-owners nationwide this March, spreading their “love life, live kind” mantra to our favorite four-legged friends.

According to the ASPCA, rodenticides and insecticides are among the top ten household toxins that poison pets, especially dogs, every year. In fact, insect and rodent poisons can be just as toxic to our curious pets as they are to the pest itself. Rodenticides are especially risky since they appear as an attractive food source to rodents as well as other animals.

EarthKind’s CEO and founder, Kari Warberg Block, advises consumers to be aware of the active ingredients used in pest control products before purchasing and putting them out.

“Identifying and understanding active ingredients, the effects they can have on our pets, along with the symptomatic behavior animals will show if ingested, is a vital step toward increasing awareness and education about pet poison prevention,” she said.

Common active ingredients in rodenticides include long-acting anticoagulants, which prevent an animal’s blood from clotting, Bromethalin, a neurotoxin that can result in brain swelling, tremors, seizures, and paralysis, and Cholecalciferol, a poison that can lead to kidney failure in animals. Symptoms to look out for include incoordination, decreased appetite, pale gums and difficulty breathing.

Warberg Block is not only a pest control expert, but a firm, passionate believer in taking a humane approach to pest prevention, recommending consumers always use Integrated Pest Management (IPM) methods, and avoid harmful chemicals or baits. The EarthKind brand, consisting of Fresh Cab, a botanical rodent repellent for more serious infestations in storage areas, garages and farm equipment, and Stay Away for Ants, Spiders, Moths and Mice inside the home, does just that. EarthKind is the first natural pest prevention line made entirely of essential oils and plant fibers, and guarantees effectiveness and safety for humans, pets and the environment.

All EarthKind active ingredients are on the GRAS (generally recognized as safe) list and pose no known safety risks when used as directed. Warberg Block’s efforts have helped reduce the need for poison/kill pest control methods in the home from 98 percent to 90 percent over the past decade.

“Growing up on a farm, I was constantly exposed to the harsh, chemical-and-kill methods of the pest control industry. I knew there had to be a safer, yet powerfully effective alternative, turns out there was – I just had to invent it! Nature has an answer for everything, and that answer isn’t bringing harmful chemicals into our homes,” she explained.

With this month’s focus on poison prevention, EarthKind urges everyone to spread poison awareness, cut out the chemicals and to always keep it kind with EarthKind.
