Michael Landa, founder and CEO of Nulo Pet Food, was named “Best CEO” by the Austin Business Journal, in the Mid Cap category. Nulo Pet Food is one of the fastest growing pet food brands with industry-leading nutrition for dogs and cats and has seen explosive growth over the past year.

“Texas has been home to Nulo Pet Food for over seven years, so it’s an honor to be selected by the Austin Business Journal for this award,” Landa said. “My mission and passion has always been to be an advocate for pet nutrition and to make sure every dog and cat has a healthy option in their bowl. It has been the ultimate reward to watch Nulo raise the bar in our industry and community in terms of product innovation, ingredient standards, sourcing and business integrity.”

Under Landa’s leadership, Nulo has experienced a landmark year in new product development, retail distribution and consumer marketing. In 2017, Nulo developed over 100 new innovative products, including three new categories for the company such as functional treats, limited ingredient diets and freeze-dried recipes. The brand increased distribution significantly and became international when it launched in Canada in September. In addition, Landa has built a community of 22 Olympic and elite athletes who are evangelists for the brand and its mission.

“Michael is an outstanding CEO that exemplifies perseverance, leadership and drive,” said Zac Fellabaum, CFO and COO of Nulo Pet Food. “He has built a company from nothing to an internationally recognized brand in one of the most competitive industries around. I’m proud to work for him and am very much looking forward to the bright future ahead for Nulo.”

The evening’s four award recipients were selected from 74 finalists in the Central Texas area.  Judges selected the winning CEOs in each category—Non-Profit, Small Cap, Mid Cap and Large Cap—by evaluating various areas including revenue growth, company culture, community involvement and more in order to determine the final CEO selections.
