Global Pet Expo is over and springtime is here and a lot of you might be rearranging your stores for spring cleaning. New store layouts can not only attract new customers but can also sell new merchandise to regulars. They might see something new in an aisle they usually walk through and decide to finally pick up that hamster or puppy.

Not only is spring the best time to rearrange your store’s layout, it is also the best time to display allergy products for pets. Flowers are blooming, wind is blowing and allergens are whipping through the air. Winter was harsh this year. The groundhog did see his shadow so there is no doubt that this spring will be an exciting one! Therefore, it is important to carry products that help with all the itching and sneezing. Put them in the front of the store in a special display and customers will pick them up as preventative care. This could be shampoos, conditioners, sprays and even supplements.

Speaking of special displays, it is also time to make room in your store for flea and tick products. There is no doubt that with warmer weather, customers will be rushing toward the door to take their pets outside. That means fleas and ticks will be ready to make a new home on their pets. Customers will remember that preventative care is important when they see your front end display of flea and tick products.

Now is also a great time to display all the new products that debuted at Global Pet Expo. This year had more innovative products than ever so now is the time to add that extra inventory to entice consumers and increase sales. My team and I had a great time running around the convention center but I think we mostly just loved getting out of that New Jersey winter weather. Check out the rest of the issue for new products that displayed at Global and a Storefront wrap up.

With that, I hope you all have a fantastic spring. Thank goodness winter is over because I was starting to feel like Jack Torrance cooped up in that hotel.
