Animal Supply Company to Acquire Lads Pet Supplies

Animal Supply Company (ASC), a national leader in pet food and supplies distribution, intends to acquire the assets of Lads Pet Supplies, which is headquartered in Angola, New York. It is expected to close April 21. Lads offers brands such as Fromm, Bayer, KLN, Merrick and Zignature.

“Expanding our presence in the Northeast and mid-Atlantic—furthering our relationship with our current customers and welcoming new customers to the ASC family—further grows our distribution platform essential to our strategic plan,” ASC CEO Don McIntyre said. “We also welcome the entire Lads team to ASC, which Ron Smith will continue to lead as president of Lads.”

Founded in 1963 by Bill and Doris Smith, Lads Pet Supplies has a strong history of customer service—doing what’s right for their customer and vendor partners. Lads’ focus has been on being a great partner for the independent pet specialty retailer. ASC is excited to continue this tradition and further extend its offerings in the region.

“This is an exciting opportunity for two great companies,” Smith said. “Lads and ASC both share a passion for pets and a focus on strong relationships with our customers and vendors.”

Lads will operate as a separate division of ASC and will continue to service customers as Lads Pet Supplies. Lads operations will remain unchanged. ASC says it looks forward to this critical step to further serve the Northeast region.
