Animal Supply Company (ASC), a pet food and supplies distributor, is teaming up with Postmates delivery service to bring its independent pet retailers the opportunity to provide fast, affordable on-demand home delivery. Through this innovative partnership, retailers will be able to deliver products to pet parent in minutes—not days.

Animal Supply said it heard from its most trusted retail partners that they were becoming increasingly concerned with competing against the big online retailers. That’s why the company joined forces with Postmates, whose couriers will deliver product directly from stores to front doors in minutes.

This is a turnkey solution that makes what once seemed complicated and out of reach, easy and accessible for retailers.

ASC will be rolling out this solution in a phased market approach, starting with a handful of retailers in California and Texas and rolling out over the next few months. And according to Angela Spears, ASC’s VP of Digital Strategy & Marketing, the company plans to ramp up the number of retailers available in the Animal Supply marketplace on the Postmates app as quickly as possible.

“Customers will only be able to order if they are within the mile radius that Postmates has defined based on the customer’s location and the store location,” Spears said. “Retailer’s store hours will be listed in the app and customers can only order during those business hours.”

There is also a plan in place if an item a customer ordered is out of stock.

“The Postmates courier will contact the customer via phone to ask if a substitution is allowed (different size or flavor),” Spears said. “If so, then the courier will purchase and deliver that product. If no substitution is available, or if the customer is unresponsive to the call then the customer has the ability to cancel the order with no charge.”

According to Spears, customers who use the service will pay a $3.99 flat delivery fee.

“That is lower than the standard Postmates delivery fee of $5.99,” she said. “Additionally, customers that use the Postmates Unlimited service pay no delivery fee if their order is over $20.”
