Smart Cat Collar by Scollar Will Launch Pre-Orders September 20

Scollar, a new pet tech company, announced its first smart collar for cats with pre-orders starting September 20.

According to the company, the smart collar is designed to make caring for your cat as easy as loving them. It has an interactive display screen, GPS for cat tracking, flea/tick and medication reminders, night visibility, breakaway clasp with lost collar finder, swappable battery and mobile app connectivity.

Created with both the owner and cat in mind, Scollar addresses the most pressing issues that arise with cat ownership with a simple, customizable pet wearable. Additionally, the modular design allows pet owners to personalize the product’s functionality to meet their changing needs over time. The smart collar begins at $99 for pre-order.

“Having multiple pets and family members creates a lot of confusion around things like feeding or medications,” said Lisa Tamayo, Scollar CEO and Founder. “We designed Scollar to help manage these details in an intuitive collar that keeps the close interaction between pet and owner.”

The open hardware platform invites partners and makers to expand collar functionality for pet doors, feeders, training and behavior modules, all of which are seamlessly integrated into the collar and mobile app.

The Scollar mobile app, currently available for free on iPhone and Android, gives pet owners access to the best crowdsourced dog and cat training videos. With the app, owners can track and share their pet’s training progress.

Created by a team of designers and engineers, Scollar aims to pack a wealth of technology into a sleek collar that is non-intrusive for cats, which are currently underserved in the growing pet wearables market. Scollar VP of Engineering, Herman Elliott, describes the smart collar as an “exciting technical opportunity to combine small size while achieving great RF performance.”

The launch of Scollar’s first pet wearable for cats will be followed by a smart collar for dogs. Scollar smart collars for cats will be available for pre-sale on September 20 at www.scollar.com. Collars will begin shipping Q1 2017, and will start at $149 full retail.
