PetSafe has selected the 15 finalists in its fifth annual Bark for Your Park Contest.

More than 1,000 communities were nominated for this year’s contest, which will award one community with $100,000 and four runner-ups with $25,000 each to build an off-leash dog park in their community.

“Dog parks provide a variety of benefits to both dogs and the community they live in, yet many communities simply don’t have the funds to build their own dog park,” said Willie Wallace, CEO of Radio Systems Corporation, makers of the PetSafe brand. “We are excited to help make this dream come true for five more communities this year, and wish all of the finalists the best of luck.”

The 15 finalists were selected based on total number of votes in the first phase, and were broken into three categories based on the community’s population size: small, medium and large. The finalist communities for this year’s Bark for Your Park Contest include:

Small

  • Epworth, Iowa
  • Fort Gratiot, Mich.
  • Portland, Texas
  • Sheffield Lake, Ohio
  • Winslow, Ariz.

Medium

  • Barstow, Calif.
  • Bryant, Ark.
  • Jacksonville, Ill.
  • Merrimack, N.H.
  • Willmar, Minn.

Large

  • LaGrange, Ga.
  • Moore, Okla.
  • Oswego, Ill.
  • Vacaville, Calif.
  • Watkinsville, Ga.

Voting for the 15 communities is open now through July 22, 2015.

The 15 finalist communities will receive a finalist kit that includes tools to help get the word out to their community and encourage them to vote in the contest. The kit includes t-shirts for dog park leaders, yard signs to place around town, stickers, window clings and other items to help communities garner more votes.

The community with the highest number of votes will receive the grand prize of $100,000 to build an off-leash dog park in their community. PetSafe will also award four runner-up prizes of $25,000 each to the community with the most votes in each small, medium and large category as well as the community with the highest voting percentage per capita, which will receive the Bark from Your Heart award. Winners will be announced on July 31, 2015.
