Pets Best Insurance Services, LLC, a leading U.S. pet insurance agency based in Boise, Idaho, has announced veterinarian Katie Buss, DVM, as the most recent winner of the agency’s My Vet’s the Best contest. The nationwide contest honors veterinarians for their outstanding service.

“In holding this contest, we aim to acknowledge exceptional veterinarians around the nation,” said Dr. Jack Stephens, founder of Pets Best. “Dr. Buss is one such veterinarian. By providing compassionate care to her patients, Dr. Buss has made a positive impact on her community as well as on her clients and their pets.”

The latest round of the contest brought in 1,480 total votes cast by pet owners across the U.S. through the Pets Best Facebook page. Dr. Buss, who practices at Kings Veterinary Hospital in Loveland, Ohio, won the contest after receiving 390 online votes. She was among hundreds of veterinarians nominated for the seasonal award. The contest’s seven other finalists received a significant number of votes.

“It is very surprising to win, given all the great entries and veterinarians involved,” Dr. Buss said. “Veterinarians work a lot of long, hard days and it is great to see how much people appreciate us through this contest.”

Each winner of the My Vet’s the Best contest receives $1,000 from Pets Best to treat animals in need. Dr. Buss plans to use the $1,000 cash prize to provide veterinary care to pets of families who may be struggling financially.

“My hope is that, as a clinic, we can help defer costs for those pets and families that really need urgent care but can’t afford it,” she said.

Robin Horst, the pet owner who nominated Dr. Buss, also received $200 from Pets Best.

“I’m delighted to have nominated Dr. Buss and thrilled that she won the contest,” Horst said. “Our dog Velvet is 13 years old, and has been seen by other vets [but none have] provided the level of compassion, patience, and expertise we’ve seen with Dr. Buss. I can honestly say she is the best vet I’ve ever known and very deserving of this recognition.”

“There are excellent veterinarians all over the country whose skill and knowledge humble me every day,” Dr. Buss said. “The nomination from our client helped me realize what matters most to the majority of our clients is to be caring, honest, listen, and do your best and they will appreciate and support you, no matter what.”

Since 2010, Pets Best has recognized outstanding veterinarians just like Dr. Buss through its My Vet’s the Best Contest. Pets Best is the nation’s first pet insurance company to develop such a contest, and received hundreds of nominations from grateful pet owners. Voting for the contest’s seasonal winners is open to the public through the Pets Best Facebook page, and each year’s grand prize winner is selected by an internal review panel comprised of respected veterinarians.
