New Orleans, Louisiana-based pet costume company Pet Krewe has signed an expansive licensing deal for 12 Sesame Street character costumes and squeaky toys.

Pet Krewe will launch Santa Elmo for dogs and cats in November 2018, in time for Christmas, with Big Bird, Oscar the Grouch, Cookie Monster, Bert & Ernie, Super Grover, Elmo, Count von Count, Snuffleupagus, Abby Cadabby, and a host of matching dog toys and catnip toys launching in early January 2019.

“Many of us grew up with Elmo, Bert & Ernie and the gang, and our warm experiences with each character will guide every costume and branding decision as we bring each of these characters to life with our pets,” said Allison Albert, founder and CEO of Pet Krewe.

Founded in 2015, the company recently secured seed financing from the New Orleans Startup Fund to ramp up production and marketing efforts to meet customer’s year-round demands for pet costumes.

Pet Krewe also just announced the launch of its new app, Pet Krewe GO, which offers a comprehensive augmented reality component to couple with each costume style. For example, when a customer purchases their next mermaid costume, they’ll be presented with a code on the package. Using their smartphone, the redeemed code will activate an immersive augmented reality for the customer to interact with Pet Krewe GO. The mermaid doggo isn’t just a beached mermaid in their living room now it’s fully surrounded by waves, reefs, and dreaded jellyfishes. This AR application operates under a freemium model. Each costume will come with a complementary world included, from which customers can opt to purchase in-app upgrades or additional worlds. The overall goal for the AR app is to take the physical product world into the digital future.
