Open Farm, a family run pet food company based in Toronto, Canada, that makes ethically raised and sourced pet food, won a NEXTY Award at the Natural Products Expo West 2017 Show for Best Transparently Sourced Product. NEXTY Awards recognize the best of the best in the natural products industry in terms of their innovation, inspiration and integrity. Twenty-one NEXTY Award winners were selected out of more than 720 nominations.

According to the awards’ site, the editors at New Hope Network, a “digital marketplace that connects the healthy lifestyle industry from supply to shelf,” have highlighted “the most progressive, innovative, inspiring and trustworthy products in the natural products industry and do so because they “believe these products and companies are shaping a healthy future for natural products and deserve to be recognized.”

Open Farm was recognized for products that display exemplary standards, innovation or traceability through the supply chain. A traceability feature on the company’s website enables pet owners to enter a bag’s lot code to see where each ingredient originated from and was purchased.Open Farm

According to Open Farm, “transparency, traceability and the integrity of [its] ingredients and foods” are important to the company.

“Consumers today want to connect with where their food comes from, and that is just as true when they choose food and treats for their pets,” Open Farm co-founder Isaac Langleben said in an email to Pet Age. “At Open Farm, we are seeing first hand the value our customers place on our use of superior quality ingredients, our unique and ethical supply chain and the incredible transparency and traceability we give in terms of our ingredient sourcing. These are all core elements of our mission as a company—creating super healthy foods and treats with integrity, and driving positive impact with respect to animal welfare and sustainability in our industry.

“This award means a great deal to us because we started Open Farm to create a pet food that animal lovers could feel great about based on its quality, nutritious ingredients and the way it respects farm animal welfare and the environment,” Langleben said in a press release. “Standing behind this commitment also means providing transparency to pet owners so they know what is in their food and where it comes from.”

“It is an honor to have this core pillar of our business recognized by the NEXTY judges panel, and we promise to continue coming up with innovative ways to make us more connected to the foods we feed our beloved pets every day,” the company said.
