WPA Hosts Groomer’s Super Show
Groomers from the United States and Canada vied for $73,000 in prizes in the Groomer’s Super Show, held Sept. 9-11 in conjunction with SuperZoo in Las Vegas. The three-day event, combining competitions with educational seminars, was sponsored by the World Pet Association (Monrovia, Calif.).
Tammy Colbert of Wildwynd (Huntington Beach, Calif.) won the Groomer SuperJackpot, a limited-entry event for Best in Show winners from any GroomTeam USA-sanctioned event in the previous 12 months, Best in Show winners from SuperZoo 2008 or 2009, winners from selected international contests, and 10 other groomers selected by lottery.
Colbert received $20,000, a trophy and a large championship rosette from the World Pet Association.
In the main competition, Kumi Tachikake of Dog’s Best Friend & The Cat’s Meow (Albany, Calif.) had Best Groomed Dog, winning $2,000 from Grooming Business Magazine, a division of Pet Business Magazine (New York).
Michell Evans of The Grooming Tutor (Albuquerque, N.M.) was Best All-Around Groomer, winning $1,500 from Grooming Business Magazine.
Catherine Opson of California won the Rescue Rodeo Competition, with the theme “Garden of Eden/The Fall of Man.” Prizes in the contest, in which groomers were challenged to groom dogs from local shelters, were sponsored by Wahl Clipper Corp. (Sterling, Ill.) and Ryan’s Pet Supplies (Phoenix). [December 2009 PET AGE]
