Las Vegas Hosts Super ProGroom
More than 300 groomers attended the Super ProGroom tournament,
held Sept. 21-22 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las
Vegas in conjunction with SuperZoo (see “Buyer Attendance
Up at WWPIA’s SuperZoo”).
About 70 groomers from the United States, Canada and Mexico
vied for $10,000 in the International Judges Association-sanctioned
grooming tournament organized by Barkleigh Productions Inc.
(Mechanicsburg, Pa.).
Barbara Prueckel of Doggie Style Inc. (Calgary, Canada),
who won two major prizes in last year’s competition,
returned this year to win two more: the Andis World of Poodles
Tournament and the Petco Mutt Makeover & Purebred Parade.
She received $2,000 plus a trophy offered by Andis Co. (Racine,
Wis.), and $1,400 plus a trophy offered by Petco Animal Supplies
Inc. (San Diego).
For the second consecutive year, Sandra Hartness of Sandy
Paws (Yucca Valley, Calif.) won the Ryan’s Pet Supplies/Wahl
Creative Styling Contest. She received $1,500 plus a trophy
offered by Ryan’s Pet Supplies (Phoenix) and Wahl Clipper
Corp. (Sterling, Ill.).
Marnie Mathison of Pets Beautiful Grooming School (London,
Ontario) won the WWPIA/Groomer to Groomer Terrier and Sporting
Breed Tournament. She received $1,400 plus a trophy offered
by the World Wide Pet Industry Association (Arcadia, Calif.)
and Groomer to Groomer magazine (Mechanicsburg, Pa.).
The two-day event also featured educational presentations
by industry experts such as Teri DiMarino, Judy Bremer-Taxman,
Jarbas Godoy and Kathy Rose.
“Super ProGroom was a huge success for the grooming
industry,” said Sally Liddick, organizer of the event.
“It offered a needed venue for another grooming contest
on the West Coast.”
Next year, the event will be held Sept 20-22, and it will
get a new name: SuperGroom.
“It promises to become one of the biggest grooming
shows in the United States, attracting an even greater international
following,” Liddick said. “There will be three
days of grooming contests and seminars.”
