Leady Takes Top Prizes in Backer's Celebration of Style
More than 2,600 groomers from across the country attended the
sixth annual Celebration of Style grooming competition, held
Oct. 7-9 at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont,
Ill., and 38 groomers entered 73 dogs to try to win nearly $17,000
in cash, trophies and gifts during the three-day event sanctioned
by GroomTeam USA (Claremont, Calif.).
The competition was held in conjunction with H.H. Backer’s
39th Annual Pet Industry Christmas Trade Show and Educational
Conference (see “Backer Christmas Show Breaks All Attendance
Records”).
For the second consecutive year, Lisa Leady of the Windy
City School of Pet Grooming (Elk Grove, Ill.) was Best All-Around
Groomer in Division A, winning $2,000 and a trophy from Safari
by Coastal Pet Products Inc. (Alliance, Ohio).
Leady also had Best Groomed Dog in Division A, winning $2,000
and a trophy from Electric Cleaner Co. (Osseo, Wis.).
Sarah Lake of Bark-A-Lounge (Joliet, Ill.) was Best All-Around
Groomer in Division B, winning $1,000 and a trophy from ConairPro
Professional Pet Grooming Products (Stamford, Conn.).
Jeri Hoppe (Barrington Hills, Ill.) had Best Groomed Dog
in Division B, winning $1,000 and a trophy from Gimborn Pet
Specialties (Norcross, Ga.).
Individual classes were sponsored by Andis Co. (Racine, Wis.),
H.H. Backer Associates Inc. (Chicago), Lambert Kay/Church
& Dwight Co. Inc. (Princeton, N.J.) and Metro Air Force
(Suffern, N.Y.).
H.H. Backer Associates also offered two free grooming seminars
in conjunction with the competition: Barb Koffski, a Certified
Master Groomer, explained how to recognize and properly handle
pets that get injured or become ill in the grooming shop;
and Suesan Watson, an award-winning GroomTeam USA member,
showed how to give a mixed-breed dog a look its owner will
love.
The seventh Celebration of Style will be held in conjunction
with Backer’s 40th Annual Pet Industry Christmas Trade
Show, Oct. 6-8, 2006, at the Donald E. Stephens Convention
Center, Rosemont (Chicago), Ill.
