WWPIA Adopts World Pet Association Name
The World Wide Pet Industry Association (Monrovia, Calif.) is now the World Pet Association—a change that reflects the organization’s evolving mission to serve members of the pet industry and their customers.
“For over 57 years, WWPIA has been a driving force promoting responsible growth and development of the companion pet, as well as related products and services,” said Doug Poindexter, president of the organization. “In recent years our scope of work has expanded to educate audiences outside of the pet industry through America’s Family Pet Expo and PetSource.org. Our name change reflects our services and offerings to both industry professionals and pet owners.”
The change was approved by members and made official at the group’s 59th annual meeting, held in conjunction with SuperZoo, held Sept. 15-17 in Las Vegas.
The group also elected its 2010 officers and board members: Mike Lasky of Schiaffino, Lasky & Associates Inc. (Brooklyn, N.Y.) will continue his role as chairman. He’s joined by first vice chair Ruth Jeffers of JeffersPet (Dothan, Ala.), and second vice chair Michael Twain of Choo Choo Imports (Portland, Ore.). Lewis M. Sutton of Pet-Ag Inc. (Hampshire, Ill.) is chief financial officer, and Brooke Berg of Jarden Animal Solutions (Boca Raton, Fla.), is secretary.
Additional members appointed to new positions or re-elected to two-year terms as directors are: Barry Berman of the NexPet Retailer Co-Op (New York); Jim Boschee of Chuck Latham Associates (Parker, Colo.); Dominic Buccellato of Pets Supplies “Plus” (Farmington Hills, Mich.); Mike Guerber of Evergreen Pet Supply (Kent, Wash.); Jacinthe Moreau of VetSource; Kailas Rao of Isle of Dogs (Milwaukee); and Steve Segner of Steve’s Pet Shop (Altadena, Calif.).
