Pet Fashion Week NY Draws More Than 2,500
The second annual Pet Fashion Week New York attracted a crowd of more than 2,500 attendees to see high-end pet fashions and lifestyle products combined with runway shows, design awards, educational symposiums and more Aug. 18-19 at the Metropolitan Pavilion in New York.
International buyers and an eclectic mix of media came together to peruse a comprehensive collection of trend-setting items by more than 150 companies from the United States and abroad. The high-end product offerings ranged from designer pet apparel and accessories such as pet carriers, collars, leashes and toys to grooming products and home décor items.
A Fashion Kick-off Party sponsored by “Legally Blonde—The Musical” kicked off the event, mixing fashion with fund-raising to benefit the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals. More than 300 guests danced the night away, most of them dressed in pink.
A runway show featured the demi-couture lines of 13 international pet apparel and accessory designers, including one couture piece from each.
Manfred of Sweden won the Media Choice Award, sponsored by Crystallized—Swarovski Elements, for creating the best apparel designs within five trend visions.
Gaia & Gino of Istanbul, Turkey, won the Lifestyle Innovation Award, sponsored by “Legally Blonde—The Musical,” for its Gino the Dog Cornered Den bed. Six pet bedding designers competed to win the award.
The Isle of Dogs Creative Styling Showcase and live art exhibit featured five avante-garde dog-human styling concepts by Sathit Suratphiphit of Thailand’s Starwood Arts of Grooming School and David Klasfeld of Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics.
